Kool Kasko is one of Hungary’s premier hip-hop DJs. Since 2001, he’s been continuously dropping mixtape after mixtape under the Kriminal Music/Firetapes Mixtape flag.
Since he rarely sleeps, not only will he be providing our listeners with mixtapes on a regular basis, but he’ll be releasing the follow up to his Spinfire Vol. 1 mixtape, which will be exclusively available for download here.
We’re proud to have him on board, and we hope you enjoy the new mashRADIO.
After the jump, read a short interview with Kasko about the mix, and what he has cooking in the future.[podcast]http://www.mashkulture.net/podcast/mashRADIO_001-mashfire.mp3[/podcast]
1. What have you been up to lately?
Right now, I’m working on the Spinfire 2 mixtape, which will have the freshest most dopest hip-hop. I’m also producing some new beats for the Krime Force One (Bankos+Kasko) album, and the Pesti Mese album. I’ve also been remixing a few tracks for Bankos’ upcoming ABC EP.
2. How and where do you make your mixtapes?
I record everything at home. I try to get my mixtapes done in two or three takes. I dig through to see what tracks fit the concept, I plan the layout, what tracks go well with each other according to their mood/BPM, etc… Then I break it into separate blocks when recording. I try to get the job done as soon as possible – naturally paying attention to the quality – so that I myself can enjoy the mix. If I work on it too long, I just get sick of it by the end, and I can never bring myself to listen to it again.
3. Tell us a bit about this mixtape. How did you choose the tracks?
The first podcast is hip-hop from the ’90s. A bit of everything. Although there’s been a ton of ’90s mixtapes, these are pretty much my favourite tracks from that decade. The songs that I listened to the most, so it was great to pull them out of the archives.
4. Is there any concept for the subsequent podcasts you’ll be providing us?
The next podcasts will also be hip-hop from the ’90s, the only difference being that each mixtape will be dedicated to a specific year. The next mixtape will be 1993. It’s gonna be bananas.
5. What else do you have planned in the near future?
Making mixtapes for your readers, completing the Peste Mese with Bankos, playing shows, and more. You can always see what I’m up to at myspace.com/djkoolkasko.
6. Last Words?
Big up, and listen to the mix. Mashfire ’93 is coming!
